MINUTES REGULAR MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT #239

The regular meeting of the Rushford-Peterson School District #239 was called to order by Chairperson Chris Grindland at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 25, 2021.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Members Present: Chris Grindland, Joyce Iverson, Jeff Michel, Ken Sawle, Kathy Wade and Amy Woxland

Members Absent: Matt Helgemoe

Administration Present: Superintendent Jon Thompson

District Office Personnel: Laura Hahn

Motion by Sawle, seconded by Wade to adopt the agenda as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

There were no public comments.

Motion by Wade, seconded by Iverson to approve the following consent agenda items: January 4, 2021 Organizational Meeting Minutes, December 21, 2020 Regular Monthly Meeting Minutes, Donations in the amount of $9,013, December 2020 hand payables, wires & payroll liabilities in the amount of $286,782.27, December 2020 payroll in the amount of $280,168.95, January 2021 board bills in the amount of $152,537.29, Fund Summary Reports; Personnel: Hire of Abbie Smith – Long-term Sub for Lisa Boyum – 6th grade. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Wade, seconded by Michel to approve the second reading and adopt the following policies: #501 – School Weapons, #502 – Search of Student Lockers, Desks, Personal Possessions and Student and #515 – Protection and Privacy of Pupil Records. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Wade, seconded by Iverson to approve the MSBA policy revisions to Policy# 516 – Student Medication. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Sawle, second by Michel to approve the first reading of the following policies: #419 – Tobacco-Free Environment, #601 – School Curriculum & Instruction Goals and #607 – Organization of Grade Levels. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Iverson, second by Wade to approve offering eligible teachers an Early Retirement Incentive this school year and work on establishing a policy going forward. The two-year incentive program will include payments deposited into the retiree’s Health Care Savings account quarterly. With a roll call vote of 5:1, Grindland opposing, motion carries.

Motion by Wade, second by Woxland to approve the 2021-2022 school year calendar. Motion carried unanimously.

Superintendent Thompson presented the Superintendent’s report.

Monday, February 22, 2021 – 5:30 p.m. – Regular Monthly Meeting – Forum Room

Moved by Prinsen, seconded by Howe, to adjourn the regular meeting at 6:48 p.m.  Motion carried unanimously.
