Michael “Mike” Roney, 57, of Hesper, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Gundersen Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.
Mike was born January 24, 1964, in Decorah, Iowa, to Robert and Joanne (Kimber) Roney. He attended Decorah Public Schools. On August 29, 1987 he married Lisa Folstad at the Hesper Lutheran Church. They lived near the North Winneshiek for a short time before moving to the Folstad farm where they have been for 28 years and raised their two daughters, Schanda and Katrina. He had worked at DECO in Decorah, Valley Design in Fountain, Minn., the Walmart Auto Center in Decorah, and Decorah Chevrolet before health problems.
Mike enjoyed working on cars and restored a classic muscle car for each of his daughters. He also enjoyed fishing, going for rides in the side by side, and especially playing with his grandsons.
Mike is survived by his wife Lisa of Hesper, two daughters, Schanda Roney of Preston, Minn., and Katrina (Devin) Cole of Calmar, Iowa; two grandsons, Brenton and Braxton; brothers and sister William “Billy” (Pat), Dave (Mary), Daryl (Wendy), Jeff (Doreen), and Vicki (Robert) Kelly, all of Decorah, and Danny of Waukon, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Joanne, and a nephew, Robert Roney.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2021, at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, Iowa. Burial will be in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4–7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hesper Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services at the church. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
