Michael “Mike” Hosting, age 70, formerly of Canton, Minn., died Monday, December 9, 2024, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.
Mike was born July 13, 1954, in La Crosse, Wis., to Cletus and Mary (Snyder) Hosting. He grew up in Canton and graduated from the Mabel-Canton High School in 1972. In 1974 he married Marsha Garness. They would later divorce. He operated the Standard Station in Canton before becoming a sprinkler fitter. He was in the Sprinkler Fitter Union in Minnesota and Arizona, then became a co-owner of a fire protection business in Arizona before retiring and moving back to southeast Minnesota.
Mike enjoyed trains and railroad history, collecting guns and coins, working on the family farm, International Tractors, hunting, going on fishing trips to Lake of the Woods with family and friends, and especially, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and other family and friends.
Mike is survived by three daughters:Jennifer (Todd) Backer-Johnson of Chatfield, Alison (Ryan) Prodzinski of Winona, and Laura (Seth) Strobush of Winona; grandchildren Chance, Sam, Callen, Ethan, Carson, Madelynn and Max; his siblings JoAnne Hosting of Winona, Patty (Russ) Paulson of Winona, Larry (Renee) of Canton, and Mary Liz Hosting of Rochester; and nephews and niece Dan, Kyle, Josh and Leah.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Caleb.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton, Minn., with Father Edward McGrath officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30–11 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at the church. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
