Merlin Fredrick Meyer, age 89, of Caledonia, Minn., passed away Monday, January 20, 2025, at Claddagh Senior Living.
Merle was born September 8, 1935, to Frieda (Beneke) and Henry Meyer in La Crosse, Wis. He married Luella Breeser on January 30, 1958, at St. Peter’s Christian Community Church in New Albin, Iowa. They lived all of their years together in Caledonia. They were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
They loved to go fishing, camping and traveling. Merle loved to take the boat and spend the whole day fishing with Lou and his many fishing friends. He lost the love of his life, Lou, to cancer in 2001.
Merle was in the U.S. Army. He took part in the Freedom Honor Flight in 2021. He was a diesel mechanic most of his life, many of those years for DeBauche Truck and Diesel in La Crosse, Wis.
The last few years he lived in assisted living where he was really good at putting puzzles and models together. He enjoyed going to Good Times in Caledonia and making trips to Buzzards in New Albin to visit with friends.
He is survived by his son Bruce and his wife Shelley, and daughter Jody Bird; grandsons Andy, A.J. and Tanner; great-grandson Charlie; sisters-in-law Linda Meyer, Beverly Meyer and Elaine (Milton) Burroughs; brothers-in-law Lee (Joan) Breeser and John Jr. (Sharon) Breeser, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Luella, son-in-law Chris Bird, parents Frieda and Henry Meyer, in-laws Laura and John Breeser, brother Norbert and his wife Doris Ann, brothers Irvin and Ronald Meyer, and sister-in-law Ruth Breeser.

Fredrickson Funeral Homes is assisting with arrangements. Merlin will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Caledonia. A memorial service will he held at a later date.
