Mavis Rilling obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Mavis  Rilling, 88, of Mabel, Minn., and formerly of Hesper, Iowa, died Thursday, December 10, 2020, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.

Mavis was born September 26, 1932, to Andrew and Nina (Nelson) Folkedahl.  She attended school in Spring Grove.  She married Joel Rilling.  They later divorced.  She had lived in the Cedar Rapids area until 1977 when she moved to Hesper.  She worked for several years at DECO in Decorah.  She later moved to the Cherrywood Apartments in Mabel and last May became a resident at Green Lea Senior Living.  She was a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church and enjoyed walking, country music, flowers and gardening, and traveling.

Mavis is survived by a daughter Lois (Mike) Maxfield of Robins, Iowa; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, four siblings: Odis Fossum of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Nanford “Buck” of Marengo, Iowa, Forrest (Andrea) of Hesper, and Lola (Robin) Foltz of Hesper.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert; a brother, Gene; a brother-in-law, John Fossum; a sister-in-law, Judy Folkedahl; and two nephews, Troy and Brett.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 16,  at the Hesper Public Cemetery in Hesper, Iowa. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
