Mary Munns, age 99, of Preston, Minn., died on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Park Lane Estates in Preston.
Memorial Mass was held for Mary on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 11 a.m., at St. Columban Catholic Church in Preston, Minn., with Father Nicholas Gawarecki officiating. Visitation took place one hour prior to Mass on Saturday, July 5, starting at 10 a.m. Mary was interred at St. Columbanus Cemetery, Preston, Minn.
Mary Helen Von Holtum was born on October 1, 1925, in Lismore, Minn., to Henry and Martha (Lammers) Von Holtum. She graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1943, and in 1947 she married her former husband Jack Munns at St. Anthony in Lismore. Mary was a friendly face at the Branding Iron in Preston where she worked for 38 years, retiring at age 84. Mary served as a sacristan and eucharistic minister at St. Columban Catholic Church in Preston for many years. Mary walked every single day, and stayed active up to the day she died. Mary traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. She made life-long friendships with the people she met on her trips and made many lasting memories.
Mary is survived by her children Eileen (Wayne) Haugerud, Michael Munns, Sharon Munns (Paul Markusen), Keith Munns, Rita Hansen, Rosemary Munns, Janice (David) Coyle, Jerry Munns (Roseann Ptacek), and Thomas (Rebecca) Munns; grandchildren Brien Cotey, Becca Haugerud, Josh Vaalemoen, Cole Coyle, Kourtney Coyle, Andrew Munns and Abby Munns; great-grandchildren Reegan Cotey, Hannah Vaalemoen, Easton Coyle, Sarah Vaalemoen, Alanna Coyle and Josslyn Coyle; siblings Rita Von Holtum, Clarice Forette, William (Norma) Von Holtum and Thomas (Dorothy) Von Holtum.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Paul and Ludwig, her sisters Theresa and Ramona, and sister-in-law Aleida.
