Mary Lou Thoreson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Mary Lou Thoreson, age 90, of Chatfield, Minn., passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Spring Valley Living in Spring Valley, Minn.

She was born January 19, 1934, the daughter of Frank and Myrtle (Bung) Ressie in Winona, Minn. 

Mary Lou graduated from Winona High School in Winona, Minn., and went on to attend Midwest Bible School in St. Louis, Mo.

She married Arthur “Richard” Thoreson on July 16, 1954, and together they shared 70 yrs, five children, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many wonderful memories.

Mary Lou’s life centered around her faith, family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, cross stitch, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Mary Lou is survived by her five children: Steven (Terry) Thoreson, Debbie (Hugh) Fendry, David (Karen) Thoreson, Kathy (Kevin) Brettin, and Craig (Jean) Thoreson; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur “Richard” Thoreson, her parents Frank and Myrtle Ressie, and her siblings Ronald Ressie, Mardell (Ressie) Buck and Charlotte (Ressie) Peterson. 

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4

Funeral services for Mary Lou will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church in Rochester, Minn., at 11 a.m.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.
