Marty Dahlberg obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Marty J. Dahlberg, 65, of Hesper, Iowa, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at his home.

Marty was born January 13, 1957, in Preston, Minn., to Martin and Betty (Kundert) Dahlberg.  He grew up in Canton and attended the Mabel-Canton Schools.  He entered the United States Army, where he was stationed in Hawaii and was a driver for various people including important dignitaries.  After his discharge he was a city maintenance worker for the City of Wykoff, Minn., he worked as a roofer for many years, and also at the Diamond Vogel paint factory.  On July 5, 2002, he married Claire McDermott. They lived in Hesper.  Marty enjoyed collecting and shooting guns, collecting coins, and riding motorcycle.

Marty is survived by his wife Claire of Hesper, a daughter, Tara (Levi) Hershberger of Fountain, Minn.; step-children Steven Current of Bemidji, Minn., and Stephanie Current and Jean Myhler, both of Puyallup, Wash.; grandchildren Alex Rowland, Lillie Stejskal, and Lincoln Hershberger; 13 step-grandchildren, 26 step-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-grandchild, a brother, Gary (Vernee) of Decorah, Iowa; a sister, Jannelle Tripp of Sturgis, S. D.; and many nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Betty.

Funeral services with military honors will be 1 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2022, at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
