Marlys Elaine Paulson

January 20, 2025 by Fillmore County Journal

Marlys Paulson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Marlys Elaine Paulson, 87, of Rushford, died Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, surrounded by her family.

Marlys was born April 15, 1937, in Lanesboro to Elnor and Myrtle (Olson) Danielson.  Marlys attended school through the eighth grade until she needed to begin working to help support her family.  Later in life she attended and graduated from cosmetology school.  She met the love of her life, Elvin Paulson and they were married on September 23, 1961, at North Prairie Lutheran Church.  Marlys worked for a couple of years as a beautician.  Once she and Elvin started a family, she found her true calling as a farm wife and mom.  She helped Elvin out where she could and made sure her family was well fed and taken care of.  Throughout those years though, she continued to be a beautician on the side, giving many haircuts to friends and neighbors.

Marlys was an active and faithful member of Highland Prairie Lutheran Church.  Besides her church, she also volunteered her time as a 4-H leader and with Meals on Wheels.  Marlys enjoyed quilting, card club, lefse making, baking, sewing, cooking and hosting family gatherings.

She is survived by her husband Elvin, of 63 years: children Marcia (Thomas) Johnson, Brian (Sarah) Paulson and Julie (Dan) Milian; grandchildren Justin, Amanda, Amy, Laura, Ava and Owen; great-grandchildren Jaxton, Ian, Avalon, Ashlyn, Mara and Bryston; sister Linda (Thomas) Jensen; sister-in-law Linda Danielson and brother-in-law Richard Lykken.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Daniel, brothers Vernon, Robert, Roger and Gerald; and sisters Darlene, Phyllis, Marilyn and Gloria.

Funeral service will take place 11 a.m., Friday, January 24, 2025, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Jackie Short officiating.  Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service – Rushford, and one hour prior to the service at the church.  She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.

Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service – Rushford is assisting the family with arrangements.  www.hofffuneral.com
