Marion Ruth Rotvold

Marion Rotvold obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Marion Ruth Rotvold died October 22, 2021, at the Gundersen Tweeten Care Center in Spring Grove, Minn. She was 87 years old.

Marion was born on November 25, 1933, to Ole and Sylvia (Johnson) Rotvold in the Spring Grove Hospital. There she was baptized on November 27 by the Reverend Ivar Havneros of Hesper Lutheran Church, Hesper, Iowa. She was confirmed on July 18, 1948, by the Reverend Phillip Hiller. She attended the Rotvold School and the Chase School, both country schools in Winneshiek County, Iowa.

Hesper Lutheran Church was an important part of Marion’s life where Sunday School and worship played a large role in her faith formation. She joyfully gave of her time and talents in volunteer service by ushering, greeting, helping with circle activities, and making quilts for Lutheran World Relief.

When the family moved in 1962 from the farm near Hesper to Mabel, Minn., Marion was invited to join the Green Lea Manor Auxiliary. She continued her volunteering until June of 2021.

Marion was blessed with the gift of creating intricate and beautiful works of art through her needlepoint and embroidery.

She is survived by her sister Ellen Ward of Decorah, Iowa, and her brother David (Susan) Rotvold of Eleva, Wis. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and their children: David (Mary) Ward – Justine and Abigail (Joe) Sanders, Pamela (Daniel) Ward Kuntz, Ruth (Neil) Schraeder – Sarah Horns, Kirk (Char) Rotvold – Kyle and Erika, Erik Rotvold, Nick (Carol) Rotvold – Colin and Kirsten, and Kari (David)  Irgens – Magnus; great-grandnieces Kara and Finley, and great-grandnephew Bennett.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents and an older brother in infancy.

The memorial service will be held on October 26, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Hesper Lutheran Church with the Reverend David Werges officiating. Due to COVID restrictions, only family is allowed to attend. Interment will take place in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to Hesper Lutheran Church, 3794 188th Ave. Decorah, Iowa 52101.
