Marilyn Eleanor Jore (née Allmaras) was born in Philadelphia on October 29, 1934. She passed away peacefully in her home on July 18, 2024, in Caledonia. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, and dedication to her community, family and faith.
Marilyn graduated from La Crosse Logan High School and completed her education at St. Francis School of Nursing. On June 9, 1956, Marilyn married Aanon Rolf Jore at Trinity Lutheran in La Crosse Wis. Her career as a registered nurse spanned several decades and various roles, starting at Milwaukee County Hospital in the Emergency Department. She worked at Midway Hospital in St. Paul in Labor and Delivery. Following a pause to raise their five children, she continued part-time at Caledonia Hospital focusing on nursing and community education.
Marilyn was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia. She contributed significantly through various church activities, including:serving on the church council, as superintendent of Sunday School, organizing WELCA field trips and Mother Daughter Banquets, teaching religious education, and participating in the altar guild and Rebecca circle.
Her commitment to service extended beyond the church. Marilyn was involved with the Houston County Historical Society, the Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Board, American Cancer Society and was a charter member of the Houston County League of Women Voters. She also dedicated time as a Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout leader, and a Meals on Wheels volunteer. Marilyn enjoyed traveling, picnics, golfing, bicycling, cross country skiing, family camping, dining out (especially desserts), playing bridge and participating in book and dinner clubs. She really enjoyed spending time with the Monday morning coffee ladies and Friday dinner group.
Marilyn is survived by her children Kathryn (Gary) Rommes, Susan Schneider, David (Lori) Jore, Carolyn (Kirk) Hankins and Daniel (Katie) Jore; her sister Charlotte Larsen, 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Dr. Aanon Rolf Jore; her parents Herman and Ella (Haas) Allmaras, and her brother Herman Allmaras Jr.
Marilyn’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her commitment to serving others, leaving an indelible impact on her family and community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A visitation will be held from 9-10:45 a.m. on Monday, August 5, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia, Minn. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life in the fellowship hall. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. The family thanks McCormick Funeral Home for assisting with the arrangements.
