Margaret Dolores “Dolly” Zincke, 98, lived a full life and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at the Chosen Valley Care Center.
Dolly was born December 15, 1922, to Melvin and Katherine (Lynch) Jacobson in Chatfield. Her mother died when she was a young girl and Dolly, with the help of her Grandma Jacobson, Grandma Lynch and her Aunt Alice, helped her dad care for Dolly and her three young brothers Don, Ronnie and Duane. They taught her to cook, bake and sew; skills that Dolly shared with and were enjoyed by future generations. She will be remembered fondly for all the holiday meals she so lovingly prepared and especially for her apple pie.
Dolly married Lawrence Zincke on January 27, 1942, and together they raised four children, Ruth, Judith, David and Kathryn. They worked side by side on the Zincke family farm for many years. In 1980, Dolly went to work at the Stewartville Care Center, a job she found very rewarding. One of her favorite activities was taking the residents fishing, after which she would fry up the fish for them as a special treat.
Dolly was a long time member of the Chatfield Methodist Church, a past president of the UMW, and a Sunday school teacher. She was also the oldest living member of the Pleasant Time club, a group of neighbor women who first met October 30, 1946.
Dolly and Larry were happiest when surrounded by family and hosted many extended family picnics on the farm. Holiday dinners brought their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren together multiple times a year. One of Dolly’s favorite roles was being a grandma, and she was very generous with her time, forming a loving bond with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Judith Weivoda of Chatfield and her children Kari (Brent) Hohn, Aaron (Megan), and Kevin (Megan Burke); her son David (Amy) of Stewartville and their children Angela (Matt) Moller and David (Kari Njos); and daughter Kathryn (Pat) Hanson of Chatfield and their children Marissa (Andrew) Spaight and Christopher; and her grandchildren Melissa (Roger) Woltz, Jennifer Peeters, and Greg (Tracy) Holets (children of the late Ruth and Earl Holets); and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by half-sister Donna Mae Moger and half-brother Harlan (Colleen) Jacobson.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lawrence, beloved daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Earl Holets, as well as her parents, step-mother Blanche, and three younger brothers.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care Dolly received while at the care center, especially the extra measures taken to keep her safe during this pandemic.
Memorials may be sent to St Jude’s or the charity of the donor’s choice.
A private funeral will take place at Chatfield United Methodist Church.
