Lyle Crowson, age 88, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Mayo Clinic – St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minn.
Lyle James Crowson was born on the family farm near Wykoff, Minn., on December 1, 1935, to Jay and Frances (Raabe) Crowson along with his twin brother Lloyd. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff. He attended country school until the eighth grade, and graduated in 1954 from Wykoff High School.
He was drafted into the U.S. Navy in November 1955. Lyle married Sandra Kay Meyer on September 16, 1961, in Wykoff, Minn. He ran his own business as a milk hauler his whole life, starting with milk cans, until he retired and sold the business to his son Keith. Lyle loved to hunt, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He made many trips to Canada and would often travel to Alexandria, Minn., to go camping. Lyle would routinely partake in coffee and breakfast with the guys in town. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, where he was very active and took pleasure in helping with the local food shelf. Lyle often participated in military honors at funerals for fellow veterans.
Lyle is survived by his wife Sandy, children Doug (Cindy) Crowson of Stewartville, Minn., Keith (Lyn) Crowson of Spring Valley, Minn., and Jan (Brad) Fritz of Eyota, Minn.; sister Alice Cummings of Chatfield, Minn., grandchildren Daniel Crowson, Jacob Crowson (Sky Headline), Jesse Crowson, Aaron (Hannah) Crowson, William (Lisa) Crowson, Ryan Crowson, Jaylynn Begin, Bradyn Begin, Carter Begin, and Emma Crowson; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Lloyd Crowson, brothers-in-law Warren Cummings and Donald O’Connor, sister-in-law Donna Meyer, niece Carol Hadoff, and nephew Joel Fasnacht.
Funeral services for Lyle will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wykoff. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Lyle will be buried with military honors in St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery.
