Lowell R. Kinstler, 85, Houston, Minn., died on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Gundersen Hospital.
Lowell was born on May 28, 1938 in La Crosse, Wis., to Alfred and Dorothy Kinstler.
Lowell attended grade school in Paradise Valley and graduated from Houston High School on June 1, 1956. He was united in marriage to Krystle Johnson in Houston, Minn., on July 2, 1961, and enlisted in the Army in August of the same year. In 1964 they returned to Houston to their farm in Perkins Valley where they continued to live and raised their children.
He enjoyed farming, snowmobiling, being involved in his church, and visiting with people. He also enjoyed watching old westerns, listening to classic country music (which would be playing on the radio in the barn), doing hog roasts and giving hayrides at their many get-togethers on the farm. These last few months, he enjoyed playing bingo with his friends at Heritage Court. As a senior in high school, his future plans had been “to be a good farmer.” So, it is a great comfort to know that he fulfilled his dreams. You could always tell how happy he was being a farmer because he enjoyed it when you would talk to him about his memories on the farm.
He is survived by three children: Sue (Randy) Thesing and Steve (JoAnn) Kinstler, both of Houston, and Scott (Connie) Kinstler of Lewiston Minn.; five grandchildren: Nick (Robin) Thesing, Jenni (Mike) VonArx, Brianna (Caleb) Wagner, Alex (Amber) Kinstler and Garret Kinstler; five great-grandchildren: Dan Thesing, Vanessa, Lane and Chad Von Arx, and Arya Kinstler; and one brother, Dennis Kinstler.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Krystle.
