Lorin Hove obituary, Fillmore county Journal

Lorin Earl Hove, 89, of Spring Valley, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Mayo Clinic- Methodist Campus in Rochester, Minn.

Lorin was born on February 16, 1937, in Wadena, Minn., to Olaf and Blanche (Sowers) Hove. As a child he moved with his family from northern Minnesota to the Chatfield area. He graduated from high school in 1955 and then attended University of Minnesota St. Paul. In 1957 he enlisted in the United States Army and served two years with the U.S. Forces in Europe. He then returned home and worked on his parents’ large dairy farm in Chatfield.

On October 21, 1961, he was united in marriage to Janet VanTries at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chatfield. To this union four children were born: Mark, Douglas, Laurel and Carrie.

Lorin held many different jobs over the years; he was an AT technician, dairy farmer, over the road truck driver, school bus driver, and worked at the Spring Valley Care Center. He had a love for farming and working with cattle and living in the country.

He is survived by his loving wife Janet, his children Mark (David Mathews) of Washington D.C., Douglas of Spring Valley, Laurel (Troy) Hove Tausend of New Hope, and Carrie (Daniel) Stephens of Richfield; grandchildren Adam and Rory Hove Tausend of New Hope, and Elaine and Emmette Stephens of Richfield; one brother, Dennis (Ann) Hove, Elk River; and two sisters, Vaudys Hove of Hayfield and Doris Frey of Byron.

He was preceded in death by his parents Olaf and Blanche Hove, one brother, Gregory; one brother-in-law, Eugene Frey (Bud); his in-laws, and many good friends and family members.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley, Minn. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minn.
