Lois Schmitz obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Lois Schmitz died November 4, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born August 7, 1935, to Henry and Genevieve (Hoscheit) Meyer. She attended Catholic Central Grade School and Loretto High School, graduating in 1953. On August 30, 1955, Lois married Miles Schmitz, they were blessed with 12 children.

In her lifetime Lois had the privilege of working with many good people at Sprague’s Bank, Farmers Livestock, Kosse/Esch Catering, Lutheran Home, and Bubber’s Jewelry. She enjoyed watching her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids play sports. She also enjoyed dancing and playing cards.

Lois is preceded in death by Miles, one infant grandchild, son-in-law Richard Kasten, infant siblings Audrey and Robert Meyer, Winifred Schulte, Lorraine Rollins, Chuck Meyer, in-laws Leo Schulte, Henry Rollins, Grace Meyer, Willie and Mary Ann Schmitz, and Gaylord and Virginia Klein.

She is survived by her children: Pete (Mary), Dan (Linda), Lori (Bob) Ellenz, Fred (Patty), Maureen Pitts, Matt (Jody), Jeanne (Bryan) Eglinton, Rob (Ann), Dianne (Doug) Plager, Kate (Gary) Amunrud, Sue Kasten, and Al (Barb); 45 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, stepgrandchildren, in-laws Larry and Joanne Klug, and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice and Valley View Health Care and Rehabilitation for the compassionate care given to Lois.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Mary’s School.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Monday, November 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, at St. Mary’s Holy Family Hall, where a rosary will be said at 2:45 p.m. Visitation will also be from 10-10:45 a.m. Monday morning before the service at the hall.

McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia, assisted the family.
