Lois Elaine Peterson, age 92, passed away July 3, 2026.
Lois was born on April 17, 1934, at the home of her parents, Alice (Hughes) and John Lyngen. Lois was baptized, confirmed and married by Reverend P. J. Nestande at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, Minnesota.
Lois attended the Durkin Country School in Holt County, Lanesboro High School and Rochester Technical College. She worked at several places in Lanesboro; Keller’s Grocery Store, Hank’s Cafe and the Lanesboro High School cafeteria. After completing Medical Secretarial School, she worked many years as a secretary for the American Board of Radiology in Rochester, Minnesota. In retirement, she worked at the Lanesboro Historical Museum.
Lois celebrated 69 years of marriage to Robert Dale Peterson (deceased January 29, 2019). She is survived by her sister Helen Rahn, three children: Linda (Bob) Hamper, Larry (Debbie) Peterson and Richard (Joan) Peterson; four grandchildren: Randi (John) Salter, Mark (Jodi) Donahue, Brian (Maureen) Peterson, and Dean (Jessica) Peterson; and six great-grandchildren.

Lois was involved in many community activities over the years: Girl Scout Leader, Luther League server, Sunday School teacher, WELCA (Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), delivering Meals-on-Wheels and the Lanesboro Historical Museum. She always mentioned there were many Lanesboro citizens that worked very hard to keep the Lanesboro Museum going and their contributions have made it the wonderful museum it is today.
Lois loved living in the beautiful town of Lanesboro and had lifelong friends, fond memories and heartfelt appreciation for the wonderful people who live in and around Lanesboro. Lois was especially grateful for her wonderful and helpful neighbors, Meals-on-Wheels volunteers and the staff from St. Croix Hospice.
A celebration of life for Lois will be held on September 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sons of Norway Hall, Lanesboro, Minnesota. There will be a short program at 11:30 a.m., then a lunch will be served. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred for the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Lanesboro Historical Museum or donor’s choice.
A private internment will take place at a later date at the Lanesboro Cemetery.
