Lois Torgerson, Fillmore County Journal

Lois E. Torgerson, 87, of Rushford, Minn., died on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at her home.

Lois Ellen Sievers was born on June 28, 1933, in Hart, Minn., to Arnold and Etta (Heiden) Sievers. Lois was raised in the Hart area where she attended school. She graduated from Rushford High School. On January 30, 1954, Lois was united in marriage with John Torgerson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart. Lois will be remembered as a very hard working woman with tremendous faith in the Lord. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart, where she was in the ladies aid, and a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Lois worked at the Farmers Coop Elevator office in Rushford for 21 years and also at the veterinary clinic and Humble Fertilizer in Rushford. She was very neighborly and welcoming to everybody. Lois sewed all of her children’s clothes when they were growing up and also enjoyed knitting, quilting and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lois is survived by five children: Rhonda (Rick) Brand of Rushford, Jill (Jack) O’Donnell of Rushford, Jan (Lynn) Haugen of Lanesboro, Minn., Faye (Michael) Baker of Milpitas, Calif., and James Torgerson of Rushford; 14 grandchildren: Ryan Brand, Rachel (Nate) Rivers, Raeanna (Paul) Tveten, Jeremy (Mae) O’Donnell, Jessica (Chad) Ruport, Jeffrey (Chelsea) O’Donnell, Jenelle O’Donnell, Jonathan O’Donnell, Matt (Carrie) Colbenson, Tessa (Tim) Diepenbrock, Wade Colbenson, Laura Baker, Dana Baker, and Jason Baker; 17 great-grandchildren, a brother, Wayne Sievers; a sister-in-law, Alice Sievers; and by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband, baby boy, siblings Darold, Norman, Ethel, Charles, and Betty; and a granddaughter-in-law, Rebecca.

There will be a funeral service for Lois at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart, with Reverend Mark Triplett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday July, 1, 2021, at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford and one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Cemetery.
