Lloyd Stephen Yocum, 85, of Mabel, Minn., passed away Friday, August 30, at his home, surrounded by family.
Lloyd was born April 15, 1939, in Tama County, Iowa, to Herman and Petronilla “Lena” (Nirschl) Yocum. He graduated from the Zearing High School. On October 21, 1960, he married Jeanette Roy at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. They lived in St. Anthony, Iowa, area where he worked as a carpenter with his brother Chuck. Along with farming, Lloyd bought furs, traded machinery, shelled corn, broke horses, and in 1997 started L&P Sheep with his son Phil, with whom he worked side by side for 20-plus years. For 30 years Lloyd and Jeanette were foster parents for several children. He was a member of St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel and the Knights of Columbus. He had been active with 4-H and the Fillmore County Fair Board. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with family, waterskiing, going to the sales barns, watching his grandsons do mutton busting and giving them rides in his John Deere gator, but especially loved his grandchildren and watching them grow up.
Lloyd is survived by his children Joan (Craig) Rasmussen of Mabel and their children Jessie (Drew) Mulford, Heather (Evan) Recio, and Kayla (Andy) Otterness; Phillip (Katie) Yocum of Mabel and their children Connor, Beau, and Declan; Sue Anne and her daughter Lena, Davey Peterson of Mabel, Darrell “Pete” Peterson of Mabel and his daughter Natsha, and Shirley Scrabeck of Rushford, Minn.; other grandchildren Jenny Crail, Jordyn Lee, Dylan Yocum, Emma Joe Yocum, and Kyra Anderson; 23 great-grandchildren, brother and sisters-in-law Connie Adair, Claudia (Tim) Powers, and Judy (Bill) Roads, Steve Roy (Elaine Johnson), and Jan Yocum.
