Diann Darnall, president of Women Who Dared, with Lizzie Hershberger, Gratitude Award recipient. The award was presented on June 23, 2026, at the Spring Grove Library.
Individuals are nominated, then their story is researched by WWD staff. The Board discusses the information and votes on whether the individual meets this criteria.
Women Who Dared is dedicated to recognizing and honoring women who have taken a personal risk that furthered the advancement of equal opportunity and status for women.
Lizzie came to the WWD’s attention through the PBS documentary “Be Quiet and Forgive.” Research began and her book was read. Lizzie courageously spoke out about crimes committed against her, she publicly shares her story, and is encouraging others to use their voice to bring accountability to sexual criminals. She has made a positive difference. The WWD Board voted unanimously to award Lizzie the Gratitude Award.
After contacting Lizzie, the board began collecting photos and setting up a presentation with the help of Judy Berg. Diann stated, “I was the lucky one to represent Women Who Dared to thank Lizzie for her bold, courageous, and daring actions. She is amazing!”
Women Who Dared was founded in 2014; the first recipient was Linda Moffitt. Her story and other award recipients are found on womenwhodared.org. This is also where Lizzie’s page will be found.
