An RBI single by Spring Grove senior Kenadee Gerard in the final fifth inning spoiled both a no-hitter and shutout for Houston pitcher Lilly Carr. Jada Strinmoen, who had reached base on an error, scored on the play, only the second Lion to reach base after Katelyn Kraus had been hit by a pitch in the previous inning. The Hurricanes won 13-1 with the 10-run rule after five innings to remain undefeated at 6-0 (4-0 SEC). Spring Grove, after this April 28 home action, is winless after five games.
Carr, a senior, struck out the first five Spring Grove batters and finished with seven strikeouts, no walks and one hit batter. At the plate, seven Hurricane batters contributed to 11 base hits, including a triple by Olivia Yohe. Houston benefited from seven walks and a pair of hit batters.
