For the second straight game, Kinley Soiney had a double-double and the Spring Grove girls won a game in which they trailed at halftime. The Lions returned from Jackson Junction, Iowa, at 15-2 after a 48-40 win over Turkey Valley (6-10). After 12 lead changes, Spring Grove overcame a 27-2 halftime deficit by scoring the first 12 points of the second half for a 34-27 lead. During that game-changing run, the Lions hit 6 of 9 shots, while the Trojans suffered through six turnovers and a missed shot. Turkey Valley never folded but never got closer than four points thereafter. The Trojans finished with 30 turnovers.
Soiney had team highs with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 7 steals. Emerson Ingvalson was close to a double-double with 9 points and 8 boards along with 4 assists and 5 thefts. Kylie Hammel contributed 10 points. No Trojans scored in double figures.
The Lions won by eight points with a 12-point scoring margin in fast breaks (20 to 8), mostly fueled by steals. Neither team had success from downtown as Grove hit only 2 of 12 treys (17%) and Turkey Valley 2 of 7 (29%).
The Trojans were added to the schedule to help make up for no games versus Mabel-Canton this year.
