The Spring Grove girls rebounded from a disappointing home volleyball loss to Mabel-Canton with a 3-0 home win over Kingsland 25-8, 25-11, 25-17. With a fifth straight win in the series, the Lions improved to 14-5 (9-2 SEC). Jordis Neeley put away 11 kills and served 2 aces while Emerson Ingvalson scored with 9 kills and 2 aces. Kendal VanMinsel had 26 set assists and served a match-high 5 aces. Sydney Holland was the dig leader with 10 while also supplying 4 set assists. Izabel Kaufmann served 17 for 17 and defended with 7 digs.
The Knights (5-13, 4-7 SEC) displayed little threat at the net with only 10 kills and one block while burdened with 17 hitting errors. They lost ground at the service line as well with twice as many service errors (6) as aces (3). Most of the visitors’ 36 points came from 23 Lion errors. Spring Grove had more errors than desired but not nearly enough to keep Kingsland in contention. The Lions had 34 kills (18 errors, 20% efficiency) and served 96% with 10 aces (3 errors).
The Lion B-team remained undefeated at 16-0 after dismissing Kingsland and then winning all five matches and the championship at the Grand Meadow Tournament. The C-team, unbeaten at 9-0-2, also swept both sets from Kingsland while the junior high Red Team and Black Team both enjoyed 3-0 decisions.
