Despite both teams coming in with identical records, the Spring Grove girls were no match for Fillmore Central this night at Harmony. The Falcons won the Jan. 27 non-conference contest, 59-31, while both teams combined for 44 turnovers (SG 24, FC 20).

Spring Grove (7-11) suffered through a disastrous start, losing possession 11 times while falling behind, 24-4. The Lions clawed back within 12 points at halftime and later within 10 points (37-27) before the Falcons (8-10) put the game out of reach with a 10-point run. At the end, Fillmore Central had won the first half, 28-16, and the second stanza, 31-15.

Emerson Ingvalson led Lion scoring with 11 points, and Kylie Hammel earned rebounding honors with 7. The Falcons displayed balanced scoring with Jersey Ristau tallying 12 points, freshman Kyla Hellickson 10 points, Abby Bothun 9 and Alyssa Briton 8.

The Lions shot with 32% success on 2-point attempts, but they were icy while going only 2 for 21 (10%) beyond the 3-point arc. Overall, the Falcons had twice as many field goals (24 to 12) and nearly twice as many made free throws (9 to 5).

Fillmore Central has won nine of the last 11 games versus Spring Grove, but the Lions cling to a slim 20-19 lead in in the all-time series. The Falcons swept all three games this night with a 39-21 win in the B-team game and a 57-23 victory in the seventh grade matchup.
