Lion Girls Lead All Night, Defeat Knights, 52-44

The Spring Grove girls led throughout a 52-44 home win against Kingsland, an early-season result that could significantly affect the conference race later in the campaign. The Lions scored the first six points, led by seven at halftime (26-19) and would leads by as many as 13 in the second half before winning by eight. Spring Grove outscored the visitors by four points from the field (42-38) and by four points from the free throw line (10-6). The Lions snapped A 10-game losing streak in the series, which the Knights still lead 11 wins to four. Spring Grove improved to (2-1, 2-0 SEC), and Kingsland went home at 2-1 (1-1 SEC).

Emerson Ingvalson and Kinley Soiney each had 16 points and 6 rebounds for the Lions, while Brinley Middendorf and Kendal VanMinsel each collected a game-high 9 rebounds, also a career-high for Middendorf. Siri Konkel added 13 points along with a game-high 6 steals. Chantle Reiland led the Knights with 12 points.

Neither team shot well with the Lions at 29% from the field and the Knights with only 26% success. Grove survived by taking the ball to the basket, outscoring the visitors 36-17 inside the free throw lane, including an eight-point advantage in fast breaks in the eight-point win.

Spring Grove also took the B-team game, 36-22, and the eighth grade game, 32-14. JKingsland does not have a seventh grade squad.
