Kinley Soiney scored her 1,000th career point while pouring in 20 points as Spring Grove pulverized visiting Lyle/Pacelli, 64-18, on Jan. 4. Siri Konkel had 14 points and Kylie Hammel 11. Emerson Ingvalson added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists with no turnovers. With a fifth straight win in the series against L/P, the Lions (9-2, 5-0 SEC) remained unbeaten in league play while the Athletics (0-12, 0-6 SEC) remained winless.
Taylor Elton’s Grove girls exhibited superior speed while outscoring the visitors, 20-0, on fast breaks. Those transition lay-ups helped the Lions shoot a hot 50% from the field and outscore L/P in the lane, 43-6. There was no suspense; Grove scored the first 14 points while storming out to a 20-3 lead and a 40-7 halftime margin.
The Lions played with only 7 turnovers while the A’s lost possession 23 times, 19 of which were Spring Grove steals. Soiney was the chief thief with 5 steals while Ingvalson swiped 4 along with 3 steals each by Konkel, Carlie Halverson and Brinley Middendorf.
The Lion B-team (5-1) also dominated the Athletics, 45-17.
