October 26, 2020 by Lee Epps

The Spring Grove volleyball girls improved to 3-0 (3-0 SEC) with a straight-set, home win against LeRoy-Ostrander and a come-from-behind 3-1 road triumph at Spring Valley versus Kingsland. It was the first loss for both the Cardinals (1-1) and the Knights (2-1). The Lions (3-0) shared the East Division lead with Mabel-Canton (3-0) and Lanesboro (3-0).

Spring Grove, during a 12th consecutive conquest of the Cardinals, took early leads in all three sets. A late LeRoy-Ostrander rally came up short in the first set, but the visitors were not able to create any drama thereafter. The Lions hit with 21% efficiency, scoring with twice as many kills (24) as attack errors (12). Brielle Neeley was the most efficient Spring Grove hitter (86%) with a team-high 6 kills on only 7 attacks. VaNessa Peterson and Kenadee Gerard each added five kills. Peterson was the leading scorer after also serving 4 aces.

All six SG servers contributed to 17 aces, led by Paige Jahnke with 5 instant winners. Meanwhile, LeRoy-Ostrander served twice as many errors (12) as aces (6). At the net, the Cardinals came up with only 15 kills while committing hitting 18 errors. Maggie Lile led Lion defenders with a dozen digs.
