Lion Boys Hand Kingsland First Loss in State-Ranked Showdown

Drama was short-lived in a state-ranked conference showdown at Spring Valley when Class A No. 14 Spring Grove dealt a first loss to No. 17 Kingsland, 60-40. Seven minutes elapsed before the first Kingsland basket, by which time the Lions led, 14-1. The Knights never recovered after nine turnovers during their first 15 possessions. Grove led by 14 points at halftime (33-17) and went up by as many as 22 in the second half.

The Knights (9-1, 7-1 SEC) shot better overall, 43% to 38%, but the Lions had an 18-point advantage with 3-point baskets in a 20-point victory. Grove netted 9 treys (9 for 25, 36%) while the home team went 3 for 13 (23%). Kingsland suffered through 24 turnovers, 18 before halftime. Spring Grove had only 10 lost possessions with three Lions scoring in double figures. Jaxon Strinmoen led SG in four categories with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals.

Jacob Olerud supplied 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists while Elijah Solum added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Ben Udstuen contributed 9 points and 5 boards. Jayden Brink led Kingsland with 14 points.

The Spring Grove B-team also won decisively, 57-32.
