The Spring Grove boys’ 85-24 victory extended their winning streak over Grand Meadow to 49 games and extended the misery for this year’s young Superlarks, who remain winless after 24 games. Coming in after two straight losses to state-ranked teams, the Lions slipped in the state rankings from No. 3 down to No. 12. But Wade Grinde’s guys have now improved to 20-3 (16-2 SEC), achieving 20 or more wins for a third straight season.
On Parents’ Night, 14 Lions played, 12 scored, 12 rebounded and 10 were credited with an assist. Udstuen hit 7 of 8 shots while scoring 18 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Jaxon Strinmoen hit 7 of 11 shots while adding 16 points, 7 boards, 5 assists and 3 steals. Bryce Berns and Jacob Olerud each contributed 10 points. Caleb Eiken pulled down a career-best 8 rebounds.
No Superlark scored in double figures. Grand Meadow starts one senior, three sophomores and a freshman with another freshman coming off the bench.
Spring Grove played with only 9 turnovers and shot a strong 55% from the field, including a very good 43% from 3-point land (10 for 23). The Lions did not depend on long-range launches while scoring 46 points in the lane. They dominated the glass with a huge 46-to-12 rebounding margin.
The B-team, also coming off two losses, also completed a season sweep of the Superlarks, 57-37. There was no eighth grade game; the Lion seventh graders won again, 48-22.
