Isaac Nelsen tossed a one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and only one walk as state-ranked No. 2 Lyle/Pacelli won, 7-0, at Blayne Onsgard Memorial Field on May 5. Caleb Griffin spoiled a potential no-hitter with a lead-off single in the final seventh inning. Griffin had been good on the mound as well with eight strikeouts and only one walk before hitting two batters before being retired by the pitch-count rule in the sixth inning.

That sixth frame was disastrous for Spring Grove which trailed only 1-0 before the Athletics added six runs on only two hits with the aid of four hit batters, two walks and an error in that half-inning. Nelsen also did some damage with the bat, going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Jake Truckenmiller went 2 for 4 with two RBI.
Nelsen had also been the winning pitcher four days previous when L/P defeated Spring Grove 3-1 at Austin. After scoring in the first inning of that game, the Lions have had 13 scoreless innings versus the Athletics. League-leading Lyle/Pacelli improved to 9-0 (8-0 SEC), while third-place Spring Grove dropped to 6-3 (6-3 SEC). Following a rain delay in the rematch at Spring Grove, the B-teams tied 10-10.
