To the Editor,
It did not come as a surprise to read this newspaper’s opinion section last week attacking Thomas Trehus. As the political attacks surface again this voting season from Greg Davids and his campaign workers, remember to listen to your candidates and take the opportunity to talk to them at local events or when they knock on your door.
Last week’s letter from Joe Sheffer, Greg Davids’ campaign treasurer, falsely claims that Trehus wants to take away your guns. I have spoken with Thomas about this subject in depth and would like to provide some clarification.
Thomas Trehus has been known to strongly support the 2nd Amendment for the law abiding. He supports sportsmen and women, and encourages hunting in southeastern Minnesota. He speaks highly of his own firearm safety training and wants to make sure the same training is available for our youth. Trehus even voted to form a trap team as a member of the Spring Grove School Board.
Thomas Trehus will respect and protect the rights of law abiding gun owners. Trehus will, however, fight to keep Minnesotans safe by making it harder for terrorists and criminals to get their hands on a weapon. Trehus will also help tackle our state’s mental health crisis and provide safe and healthy pathways for those in need.
We need a state representative who will keep us safe, while investing in the things that make us great. Trehus will protect our schools, fix our roads and bridges, and make sure small businesses and farmers are able to be successful. Greg Davids has had 12 terms to prove himself. I’m voting for Thomas Trehus in November.
