To the Editor,
Kudos to Lee Epps for his historical articles, I find them all interesting, but the one about the Houston County Poor house I remember well because it was an impressive building. When I was a senior at St. Peter’s High School in the early mid 1960s, in Hokah, Minn., the parish priest would send me up to that poor house near Caledonia to transport a resident from there back down to Hokah, and I would drop him off at the parish house. I would go in the early part of the school day and I drove the priest’s car to get him. Our priest at that time had a black 1962 or 1963 Chrysler New Yorker, or 300, four door HT. It was a treat to get out of class and drive that impressive car because until then all I drove was Dad’s old and underpowered Fords from the farm. Good memories.
