LeRoy-Ostrander/Lyle/Pacelli senior quarterback/defensive back Camden Hungerholt has been named Mr. Football for 2024 by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association. He is the first 9-Man player to receive the award in the 21 years of its existence. Hungerholt was honored on December 15 at the Mr. Football banquet in St. Louis Park. He was one of 10 finalists from all classes. Coach Trever Carrier; “Camden is an extremely committed player that wins on the field, in the classroom, and in the weight room. He has that rare ability to be a true run/pass quarterback. He is a gifted athlete that could play anywhere on the field.” Hungerholt, who boasts a 3.91 G.P.A., threw for 2,421 yards and 34 touchdowns versus just four interceptions while running for 2,846 yards and 36 touchdowns in leading the Cardinals to the Section 1 9-Man title and a state semifinal game. For his career, he finished with 5,309 yards passing and 6,543 yards rushing with 147 career total touchdowns, 86 of which came on the ground. Hungerholt is MSU-Mankato bound. Notable previous Mr. Football recipients include former NFL wide receiver Michael Floyd of Cretin Durham-Hall (2007) and current Orlando Magic starter Jalen Suggs (2019) of Minnehaha Academy. The other nine finalists for the Mr. Football award were Nolan Ginskey (Owatonna), Kevon Johnson (Robbinsdale-Armstrong), Landen Kujawa (Becker), Hank Meyer (Kimball Area), Sam Shaughnessy (Blaine), Chase Thompson (Alexandria Area), Grant Tylutki (Rocori), Hudson Vosika (BOLD), and Jacob Wrbanek (Maple Grove). Hungerholt naturally was 9-Man All-State plus A.P. and Minnesota Vikings 1st team All-State for all classes. Joining Hungerholt as 9-Man All-State are teammate Carter Sweeney (WR) and Kingsland’s Parker Johnson (DL). Hungerholt and Johnson each repeat making 9-Man All-State. Sweeney (WR/TE) was also A.P. 2nd Team All-State for all classes while teammate Ryder Stern (DE/TD) made 9-Man All-State honorable mention.
