Lawrence Riess obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Lawrence Rienhold Riess, 88, of Chatfield, Minn., went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 11, 2022.

He was born in Marshfield, Wis., on May 24, 1933, to Henry and Frieda (Schauer) Riess. Lawrence graduated from Rochester High School in 1952.  Lawrence served in the Army from 1954-1956.  He was married to Betty Moore on September 8, 1956.

Lawrence ran multiple successful businesses, including a farm, wholesale and retail plastercraft business, and also a concessions business. He belonged to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chatfield and was on the Cemetery Board, Board of Trustees and participated in Meals on Wheels. He also belonged to a card club for more than 40 years.

He is preceeded in death by his parents, Henry and Frieda (Schauer) Riess.

He is survived by his wife Betty, sister Harriet Riess, children Laureen (Tim) McFarlin and Lendon Riess, grandchildren: Michael (Kim) McFarlin, Justin McFarlin, Corinne Riess, Seth Riess, Isaac Riess and Grace Riess; and great-grandchildren Jaxon, Alyssa, Samantha and Zachary.

Funeral service for Lawrence will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Chatfield.  Visitation will be one hour before the services at the church.  Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Chatfield, with military honors by Chatfield’s VFW Giese Kelsey Post # 6913.
