Fillmore County Journal - Larry Baumler Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Baumler, age 76, of Mabel, formerly of Burr Oak, died Monday, March 6, 2017 at Green Lea Senior Living in Mabel.     

Larry was born January 31, 1941 on the family farm in Burr Oak Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa to Martin and Esther (Schott) Baumler.  He attended Burr Oak country school and graduated from the Canton High School.  He served two years in artillery with the United States Army.  After returning from the Army, he worked for 30 years as a surveyor and inspector for the State of Iowa Highway Engineering Department.  Larry was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Canton and the American Legion.

Larry is survived by five siblings: Floyd of Rochester, Donna Koperski of Rochester, Arlan (Karen) of Zumbro Falls, Minn.; Diane (Paul) Schmelzer of Ridgeway, Iowa; and Sharon Wiltgen of Gaylord, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elaine Brynsaas and LaVonne Gehling; a brother, Virgil; three brothers–in-law, a sister-in-law, and a niece and nephew.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton. Burial will be in the St. Agnes Cemetery, with military honors from the American Legion.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 10 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
