Laurald Joseph Afseth obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Laurald Joseph (Joe) Afseth Jr. of Harmony, Minn., passed away on November 15, 2022, as the result of a motor vehicle accident near Canton, Minn. 

Laurald Joseph Afseth Jr. was born on August 2nd, 1959 In Harmony, Minn., to Laurald (Larry) and Delores (Alden) Afseth. Joe grew up on the family farm in rural Preston, Minn., and graduated from Preston-Fountain High School in 1977. Following high school, Joe attended the University of Minnesota – Waseca where he earned his associate’s degree. Joe worked on the family farm and in various other jobs before finding his true calling as Karaoke/DJ Joe in 1998. Most recently, Joe worked at Deco Products Company in Decorah, Iowa.

Joe’s larger-than-life personality was beloved by many. His passion for stage theater and singing led him to his Karaoke/DJ business. He used his magnanimous personality to win others over with his excellent wit and sense of humor. He brightened the day of those he touched from day to day. And of course, Joe was the #1 Green Bay Packers fan you will ever meet.

Joe is survived by his mother and father, Laurald Sr. (Larry) and Delores Afseth of Preston, Minn., his wife Susan (Caldwell) Afseth of Harmony, Minn., his son Adam Afseth and his wife Nancy Chu, his daughter Marli (Afseth) Hart and her husband Ian Hart, and his grandchildren Lillian and Mason Hart. 

Visitation and funeral services will be held at the Preston United Methodist Church in Preston, Minn., on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Visitation hours will be 1-2:30 p.m. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. A social hour with a light meal to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send all donations in Joe’s name to the Preston United Methodist Church.

    Condolences to the Afseth family. Joe sounds like one heck of a guy. I probably met him when he and I were just little guys when my mom and dad Kenneth and Rita Mangan visited you on the farm. God bless
