Emerson Ingvalson poured in a career-high 26 points as the Spring Grove girls remained undefeated in conference play with a 70-51 home win over a young, but pesky crew of Cardinals from LeRoy-Ostrander on Dec. 15. Ingvalson did more than score, close to a double -double with 9 rebounds along with 5 steals and 4 assists (only 1 turnover).

Kylie Hammel turned in a second straight 16-point performance to go with 4 thefts and 3 assists. Siri Konkel (6 points) orchestrated the attack with 8 assists and spearheaded the defense with a game-high 7 steals.

Freshman Brinley Middendorf came in to add 6 points and 8 rebounds. In her first varsity start, sophomore Carlie Halverson (3 points) collected a career-high 9 rebounds while coming up with 4 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot. Kendal VanMinsel put in 8 points, rebounded 7 times and rejected 2 shots.

L-O freshman Miranda Nagel scored 15 of her game-high 17 points before halftime. She finished with a team-best 8 rebounds. All-Conference junior center Benita Bolt added 9 points and 5 boards.

The league-leading Lions (5-1, 4-0 SEC) never trailed but the winless Cards (0-9, 0-5 SEC) trimmed a 16-point deficit back to single digits at 52-43 about halfway through the second half. However, Spring Grove scored the next 16 points and led by 27 before L-O tallied the final eight points.

Again, the Lions were outshot from the field (40% to 35%), but with 21 more rebounds and 11 fewer turnovers, Grove shot much more often than did the visitors.

Both are young teams. The Cardinals started a senior, a junior and three freshmen.  Spring Grove has no seniors and started three sophomores and a pair of juniors. The Lions have now won five straight games in the series they now control, 62 wins to 12.

The Lion B-team (3-1) won a mismatch, 40-9. Spring Grove took the eighth grade game, 34-28. L-O does not have a seventh grade squad.
