Larry Hunt, age 90, of Fountain, Minn., passed away at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, Minn., on Thursday, August 29, 2024, with family by his side.
Larry was born April 2, 1934, in Rochester, Minn., to Tom and Bernice (Bleeker) Hunt. He graduated from Preston High School in 1951 and attended St. Olaf College. Larry was united in marriage to Marjorie Wolfe on June 12, 1955 in Faribault, Minn.
From 1956-1958, Larry served in the United States Army stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Tex. Following his service, he and Marge moved back to Minnesota and made their home in Fountain. He worked with his dad at the Fountain Lumber Company, becoming owner and operator until the business was sold in 1983. In 1986, Larry was appointed the Veterans’ Service Officer for Fillmore County, helping local veterans and their families. He retired in 2006. During this time, he also served as the Fillmore County Emergency Management Director.
Larry loved all types of fishing, particularly fly fishing and tying his own flies for himself and other fly fishermen. He also enjoyed golfing, picking morel mushrooms, hunting wild ginseng, reading, and in his later years, riding his Honda trike throughout Southeastern Minnesota. He will be remembered for his service to others, love of his family and persistent sweet tooth.
Larry is survived by his daughter Julie (Tom) Tienter of Chatfield, Minn., and granddaughter Tonya (Jake) Bishop of Roland, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his wife Margie (2018), and parents.
A memorial service celebrating Larry’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Fountain Lutheran Church in Fountain, Minn., with Pastor Kris Hertsgaard Kincaid officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held at a later date at Fountain Lutheran Cemetery and the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston.
Memorials are suggested to the Fountain Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice. The family expresses their gratitude to the Chosen Valley Care Center and Doctor Ponton for the compassion and care Larry received over the past two years.
