Larry Kahl obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Larry Calvin Kahl, age 72, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, at home.  He was born on December 28, 1952, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Calvin and Evelyn (Cardinal) Kahl.  After graduating from Spring Valley High School in 1971, Larry moved to Colorado and spent many years in the Denver area.

Larry came back to Grand Meadow and owned his own painting business, and was also a beloved bartender for many years.  Larry also worked for local auction companies, and most recently could be seen behind the counter at the Meadow Market/Honest Liquor.  He was also a former member of the Lions Club in town and helped out whenever he could.

He was known by many names; Butch, Butchy, Uncle Larry, and Lar Bear, just to name a few. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed painting and playing cards with family and friends.  He looked forward to casino trips with the Spring Valley group and Watermelon Days each year with Rita.

Larry is survived by his sisters Rose (Ed) Ackerman of Grand Meadow and Lori (Curt) Unverzagt of Brownsdale; eight nieces and nephews: David (Diane), Kenny (Melanie), Mary (Jim), Phillip, Carla, Sheldon, Kristi (Larry), and Matthew (Sara); 14 great-nieces and nephews, one great-great-niece and one great-great nephew, and many important friends in the town.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nancy Miland, and niece Donna Gehrking.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Larry touched are invited to Hindt Funeral Home at 104 Grand Avenue East, Grand Meadow, Minn., from 4-7 p.m., on Monday, August 25, 2025.  There will be a time of remembrance at 6:30 p.m.
