At their regular August 10 board meeting, the Lanesboro School Board accepted the resignation of Chris Hanson, an elementary teacher. With school quickly approaching, Superintendent Matt Schultz informed the board there would be interviews conducted the next day.
The board approved the hiring of Crystal LaDoux and Melissa Fahrenholz as paraprofessionals and Darcel Reker as a special education teacher. Reker will be paid an hourly rate as a case manager working as needed.
Schultz informed the board that the posting for an industrial tech teacher locally had generated some interest; the hiring of an industrial tech teacher is in process.
Approval was given to a resolution calling for the school district general election. The election will occur Tuesday, November 8 in conjunction with the general election. The school board will have three positions to fill — the two positions currently held by Steve Storhoff and Steve Snyder and the vacancy. Citizens are encouraged to come forward to be included on the ballot.
Chairwoman Christine Troendle informed the board that she had spoken with Dave Lawstuen, and he had agreed to fill the current vacancy on the board until a new board member comes on board. Lawstuen, a longtime board member, had just left the board several years ago. The board quickly approved his appointment
In his superintendent’s report, Schultz shared that the planned carpeting of classrooms has been completed. The 1st grade room is now equipped with new chairs and desks as well.
Schultz reported that he had received a mock-up from HSR for the proposed bus garage, but it won’t work in the planned space. HSR had thought the school property was larger than in reality.
A bus was damaged when it clipped a fence while backing. The school is now waiting for a replacement windshield for the bus. Such replacements are only available from the bus manufacturer.
Steve Storhoff asked how the planned solar project was coming along. There are still no updates nor any progress on the project.
In action items, the board approved setting of the truth in taxation hearing for December 14 at 7 p.m. with the regular December board meeting to follow.
Polka Dot Dairy’s low milk bid was accepted. The board approved posting for snow removal services for the year.
An agreement with Fillmore County for foster care transportation was approved; this is a standard agreement each year in case such transportation is needed.
At 7:14 p.m. Chairwoman Christine Troendle tapped her gavel to close the meeting. Troendle joked that if it hadn’t been for Schultz reading the entire resolution about school board elections, the meeting would have been even shorter.
The next Lanesboro School Board meeting will be September 14 at 7 p.m. in the forum. The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend.
