On Monday, August 13, a special Lanesboro school board meeting was held at 7 p.m. in the elementary library. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposed facilities project with members of the community of Lanesboro. A similar meeting was held earlier this year during the beginning stages of the project and, now that project is getting closer to being finalized, the board wanted to hear feedback from the community again. The questions and suggestions received at the first meeting had been very helpful in putting together the project plans, and the board members were not disappointed by the engagement at the second meeting either. “I think all around, it was a positive meeting,” board member Dave Lawstuen noted. The board was able to review the project plans so far with the community members who attended the meeting, receive their input, and answer any questions. The general feeling among the school board and the Lanesboro residents is one of excitement to start the project and see their school updated and improved for the students. The newest board member, Steve Storhoff, was able to attend the Minnesota School Board Association’s recent conference. “It was very eye-opening,” he said about the information he learned at the workshops. “There’s more to it than I ever dreamt.” Storhoff recommended the conference to anyone interested in learning more about being a school board member.
A resignation from daycare aide Pam Dietrich was approved along with a resignation from Title I teacher Mitchell Walbridge. The board also discussed a resignation from band instructor Katrina Schuneman, but decided to table it until next month’s meeting at which time they will hopefully be able to also approve the hiring of a new instructor.
The fall head coach contracts were approved. James Semmen was hired as the head football coach, Julie Schreiber as the head volleyball coach, and Ellen Cullen as the head cross country coach.
A resolution relating to the election of school board members and calling the school district general election was reviewed and approved.
