Kingsland’s Roofing Project Stays on Schedule Despite Wet Summer

July 28, 2025 by Paula Barness Leave a Comment

As for most, the summer months are a time for digging into projects. For the Kingsland School District roofing has been this year’s selected project. At the July 21 Kingsland School Board meeting, Superintendent Scott Klavetter shared the roofing project is right on track despite the soggy summer, with several areas nearly complete.

“They’ve intentionally not done some of the steel work. When they get done with laying the membrane, getting the gravel down and the roof itself is done, if the weather is okay, they are just going to the next section of roof. If they get down the road and there is a day with a 40%t chance of rain they can’t open up a roof, but they can go back and do the metal work. They are being as strategic about it as they can to keep it moving,” Klavetter said.

Next summer the remaining projects, which include replacing air handlers, work on the concrete and asphalt and tuck pointing will be done, though work has already begun within the planning stage of the project.

“The design plans have been sent on to ICS (Consulting Inc.) to be estimated and they will then prepare all the work to send out to do all the required public postings to get proposals and get bids. The hope is to get bids in late summer early fall and be able to do all that process by October, so we have contractors lined up for next summer,” Klavetter shared.

Other business

Klavetter told the board the Solar for School grant and the federal rebate program are still available and their upcoming project will not be affected by any funding cuts.

Parents and students will soon be able to register and pay for school activities on the school’s website. Klavetter stated they are hoping to have it go live in August.

The board awarded Prairie Farms the milk bid and Baudoin Oil Company was awarded the fuel bid.

The board approved the renewal of the following memberships: the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) for $4,420, Minnesota Rural Education Association (MREA) for $1,663, SSC for $1,800, SEMNET for $1,800 a month, Region V for $12,777.15, as well as the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) and SEC though they are awaiting those bills.

The substitute pay was raised $5 a day and non-licensed work substitutes were raised from $13 an hour to $15. Student workers will see a raise from $11.13 to $13.50.

The athletic and extra curricular fees will increase for grades nine through 12 to $75. Grades seven and eight will remain the same at $70. The school year season passes will increase to $45 for students, $90 for adults and $220 for families.

The board approved the long-term facilities maintenance ten-year plan as prepared by TSP, Inc., the district’s architects with recommendations from ICS.
