Kimberly Ann Kitchen

April 28, 2022 by Fillmore County Journal

Kim Kitchen obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Kimberly Ann Kitchen was a thoughtful and composed wife and mother who passed away on April 26, 2022, in her home, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer for nearly two years.

She was born to Gordon and Nacia Johannsen on October 2, 1961.  Kim’s childhood was spent in southeast Minnesota where she discovered her love for music, playing in the marching band, jazz band, mastering the piano, and performing as one of the lead singers in the band Gemini. Even in her later years, she proudly led the chime choir at the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs.

Kim’s love for music didn’t slow her down professionally either.  After holding multiple bookkeeping positions in her earlier years, Kim most recently served as head clerk for the Chester, Iowa, and Cresco, Iowa, post offices.

Kim is survived by her husband James Kitchen, her children Lindsey Barrett (Dan Gibbs), Laura Barrett (Nick Brock), Harry Kitchen, her stepson Dana Kitchen (Lacey Kitchen), her mother Nacia Johannsen, her brother Todd Johannsen (Dawn Johannsen), along with her 10 grandchildren.

In her husband’s words, “If all women would be like Kim, the entire world would be at peace because she always thought before she spoke, she never talked back, and she always did what she could to keep the waters calm.”  Kim brought many joys to her marriage, and who she was as a person will be greatly missed.

Please join us for a Celebration of Life which will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursda, May 5 at the city hall/community center in Lime Springs, Iowa. Lindstrom Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
