Kay Charlene Prinsen

Kay Charlene Prinsen, age 77, of rural Preston, Minn., passed peacefully surrounded by family on September 25, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Saint Mary’s Campus.

Kay was born on April 26, 1939, in Minneapolis to Paul and Charlene (Unruh) Berges. She and her parents lived in Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and in 1949 ,the family moved to Preston, Minn. In 1957, Kay graduated from Preston High School. She married Lester Prinsen on September 5, 1959. The couple farmed in the rural Preston, Minn., area. Kay also was a homemaker and provided day care for many years.

Kay was a loving mother, grandmother, wife and friend to all. She is survived by her husband, Lester; children Kevin (Cathy) of Reno, Nev.; Gary (Sally), of Delano, Minn.; Steve (Sharon) of Chatfield, Minn.; and Shannon (Steve) Bronner of Preston, Minn.,; her grandchildren: Jessica, Stephanie, Jack, Grant, Sawyer, Nick, Sydney, and Sophia; and sister Pamela Olivero (Jim), of Albert Lea, Minn.

Kay was a member of the Greenleafton Reformed Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, and was a very important part of the Greenleafton Reformed Church.

Kay enjoyed her family, her church community, her close friends, and loved attending her children and her grandchildren’s activities. She loved conversation and always had coffee for the many visitors to her home. Kay enjoyed cooking and hosting gatherings for her family during the holidays and other events.

Kay’s family would like to thank all the hospice care specialists at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., for all their loving care and support. A special thanks also goes to Pastor Roger Lokker of Greenleafton Reformed Church and to her many visitors during her stay in hospice.

Funeral service will be held at the Greenleafton Reformed Church, with Pastor Roger Lokker presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the church service. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 28 from 5-7 p.m., and one hour before the 11 o’clock service on Thursday, September 29.
