Kathy Sue Parsons

October 28, 2025 by Fillmore County Journal Leave a Comment

Kathy Sue Parsons, age 66, of LeRoy, Minn., died on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus.

Kathy Sue was born on September 8, 1959, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, to George and Evelyn Boomgaarden. She passed away in Rochester, Minn., at the age of 66.

She was the second youngest of eight kids. Kathy moved to Rochester, Minn., after graduating from Tyler High School in Tyler, Minn., and worked for the Mayo Clinic for nearly 30 years. First as a unit secretary, then after earning an associate’s degree in her 40s, she went on to become an education coordinator for the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Mayo Clinic.  Kathy loved music, gardening, cooking/baking, and most of all, she loved a good party. Kathy never knew a stranger and was called a friend by many. Kathy shared a love of the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming with her family and had the pleasure of seeing the Cloud Peak Wilderness from the back of her horse Boe, several summers in a row.

Kathy is survived by siblings Allen and Ina Boomgaarden, Gail Richardson, Ken and Rosalie Schmith, Randy and Cheryl Boomgaarden, and Scott Boomgaarden. She is also survived by her ex-husband James Parsons, and her children Justin and Katie Parsons as well as Karie Jane Parsons.  She is the beloved grandmother of four grandsons: Huckston, Macklin, Jeremiah and Rusty.

A celebration of life will be held at the Isle of Dreams in Spring Valley, Minn., on October 29, 2025, from 4-7 p.m.
