Kathleen “Kittie” Tostenson

August 11, 2025 by Fillmore County Journal

Kathleen "Kittie" Tostenson obituary, Fillmore county Journal

Kathleen “Kittie” Tostenson, 89, of Houston, Minn., peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Kittie was born on September 10, 1935, in Granton, Wis., to Fred and Mabel (Johnson) Ferguson. She attended Highland Academy in Rockland, Wis., where she met the love of her life, Leonard Tostenson. The two were united in marriage in 1953 and were blessed with 63 years together. From this union, the couple welcomed three children. In 1965, the couple purchased a farmstead north of Houston to tend the land and raise their family. Kittie and Leonard were members of the Seventh-day Adventist Conference Church; this was the foundation the two raised their family on. Kittie accompanied Leonard in his adventures; she could be found in the stands cheering him on during horse pulling competitions. After Leonard’s death in 2016, Kittie turned her interest to birdwatching. She kept meticulous notes on the migration patterns and comings and goings of her feathered friends. Kittie’s true passion in life was her family. Nothing brought her more joy than seeing and hearing her house full of kids. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will forever be missed.

Kittie is survived by her half-siblings Pat (Ron) and Carney, special nephew Randy Kipp, children Reo, Glen, Kitricia (Randy) Steinfeldt, and Sue; nine grandchildren: Tim (Amy), Chad (Susie), Brad (Liz), Brian (Molly), Michael (Katie), Jolene (Brian), Scott, Adam (Connie), and Stacy (Pat); 23 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, and siblings Russell, Dolly, Wanda, Shirley and baby Mavis.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, Minn. Visitation will be held from 4–7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Hoff Funeral Home in Houston, Minn., and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Hoff Funeral Home – Houston is assisting the family. Please visit www.hofffuneral.com to leave an online condolence.
