Judy Chapel

March 4, 2025 by Fillmore County Journal

Judy Chapel obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Judy Chapel, 79, of Houston, Minn., died Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Benedictine Nursing Home in La Crosse, Wis. A celebration of Judy’s life will be held from 11-3 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2025, and the American Legion, 149 Leonard St. South, West Salem, Wis.  A private burial will be held at the Money Creek Cemetery.  Hoff Funeral Home in Houston, Minn., has been entrusted to handle the final arrangements.

Judy was born June 12, 1945, in La Crosse, Wis., to Lester and Margaret (Lange) Schultz.

For many years, Judy worked at Skemp Clinic (later became Mayo Clinic La Crosse). After retirement, she filled her days taking care of her oversized garden and spending time in Arizona. In June 2012, Judy had a severe stroke. To say life was different and often difficult after the stroke was an understatement, but Judy was determined to continue life to the max as much as possible.

Judy married Richard Chapel in 1986 and moved to Houston, Minn.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband Richard Chapel on November 29, 2024, her parents Lester and Margaret Schultz, two of her sisters, Alice Dixon Blihovde Butler and Sharon Barum; and an infant daughter, Margaret Alice McCallson.

Judy is survived by her sons, Mark McCallson and his wife Karen of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mathew McCallson of Sparta, Wis.; her grandson Ryan McCallson and his fiancé Ali of Jacksonville, Fla.; and survived by her sister Shirley Roseland and her husband Stephen of Granger, Ind. Additionally, Judy is survived by stepchildren, Patty (Larry) VanGundy, Peg Chapel, Jim Chapel (Julie), all of Houston, Minn., and Joan (Scott) Gregory of Chandler, Ariz.; six step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal services. Hoff Funeral Home in Houston, Minn., has been entrusted to handle the final arrangements. A private burial has been held at Money Creek Cemetery, Houston, Minn.
