Juanita I. Ladewig, 69, of Rushford, Minn., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Juanita Ione Volkman was born February 4, 1948, in Rushford, Minn., to Edward and Ellen (Bartelson) Volkman. She was raised in the Pine Creek area, where she attended country school. She attended Lewiston Schools for a couple of years and was a 1967 graduate of Rushford High School. On June 29, 1968, she was united in marriage with Les Ladewig at Rushford Lutheran Church. She worked as an in home day care provider for many years and also worked in the Rushford School cafeteria. Juanita was a member of Rushford Lutheran Church and a member of the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Rushford Legion Auxiliary and also served on the board of directors for the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home Foundation in Rushford. She loved cooking and baking for her family, especially her sour cream cut out cookies. She took great pride in making lefsa and rommegrot during the holidays. She was also a big collector of Christmas horses and sleighs. Juanita was always LOUD and PROUD at her grandsons’ sporting events. Whether attending a high school game or watching the Minnesota Twins at home, she could always be heard yelling, “Play Ball!” after the playing of the National Anthem. Juanita was a woman full of infectious energy who had a laugh that you could always pick out of a crowd. She loved many things in life; her miniature horses and her Yorkies, but most of all, her family. Her wings were ready but our hearts were not.
Juanita is survived by her husband Les; three children: Kristin (David) Kingsley of Houston, Minn., Kim (Chad) Rasmussen of Rushford and Leslie Adam Ladewig of Rushford; five grandchildren: Nate, Cole, Allie, Lukas and Lakyn; a sister, Shirley Anderson of Lewiston, Minn.; sister-in-law Pat Volkman of Rushford and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Leonard and brother-in-law Richard.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Rushford Lutheran Church, with the Pastor Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will be in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017, at Hoff Funeral Service in Rushford and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
