Joyce Opal Danielson Fossum

May 17, 2022 by Fillmore County Journal

Joyce Danielson Fossum obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Joyce Opal Danielson Fossum, of Canton, Minn., passed away on May 12, 2022, after being called home, ending her battle with cancer.

Joyce was a loving mother to three boys: Todd, Tim, and Troy; a faithful and supportive wife to her late husband Robert Fossum, and beloved grandma and aunt to many.

Joyce Danielson was born on April 13, 1937, to Pearl and Edwin Danielson. She had two brothers, Elwood and Roger, and three sisters: Carol, Lorraine, and Nancy. She and her siblings grew up in Brooten, Minn., and in 1956 she graduated high school in the same town. On December 23, 1961, she married the one and only Robert Fossum after meeting him at a dance, making it a double wedding with her sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Donny Lofquist. Joyce went on to have three boys, Todd (1963), Tim (1964), and eventually, Troy (1972). In 1974 Joyce, her husband and boys decided to move to Canton, Minn., where Robert would open a transmission and automotive shop. The family home would remain on the same property in Canton for the rest of their lives and it was a well-known spot for a hot cup of coffee and good laughs. Joyce’s hobbies included taking care of her home, caring for her three boys, cooking for her family, volunteering at her church, teaching Sunday school, and spending time with her grandkids. She will forever be remembered for her witty, unexpected jokes, ALWAYS ordering fries at any restaurant she went to, making the best goulash anyone has ever eaten, and her ability to spread butter on French bread like no other (just ask her grandkids).

She will be greatly missed by her sons Todd (Annette), Tim, and Troy (Bonnie); grandchildren Alex, Cassidy, and Jeffrey; sisters Nancy and Carol; and many nieces and nephews, friends, and family.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 21 at the Canton-Scotland Presbyterian Church in Canton. Funeral service will be at noon and a lunch will follow.  A lunch will follow immediately after the service. Burial will then be in the Greenfield Cemetery in Harmony.  The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
