Joseph “Joe” Alan Gathje

December 15, 2022 by Fillmore County Journal

Joseph Gathje obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Joseph “Joe” Alan Gathje, 21, of Lanesboro, Minn., died December 12, 2022, in a work related accident.

Joe was born May 2, 2001, in Rochester, Minn., to Alan and Rochelle (Drier) Gathje.  He attended and graduated from Lanesboro Public School in 2019.  He then attended Minnesota West and earned his associates degree in Powerline Technology.  He was employed with Highline Construction as a powerlineman.

Joe was a “hard working good timin’ man” (a quote from his cousin Zach).  In his 21 years of life, he lived it to the fullest.  His powerline job was a perfect fit for him; he loved his work. Hunting, fishing and anything else outdoors were his favorite activities. Family and friends were what he lived for.  His soft and kind heart will always be remembered.

Joe is survived by his parents Alan and Rochelle (Drier) Gathje, sister Alyssa and brother Jake, grandparents Ron and Winnie Gathje and David and Brenda Drier, aunts and uncles Bob and Cindy Gathje, Michele Gathje, Jeff Gathje, Sheila (Drier) and Don Glaske, Eric and Diane Drier, Chad and Amy Drier, and Amanda (Drier) and Mike Reisner; cousins Zachary Gathje, Dane and Drew Glaske, Alexis, Elijah, and Abby Drier, Keira and Elsa Drier, and Alaina and Keegen Reisner.

Joe is preceded in death by his Aunt Kate (Jeff) Gathje.

Funeral service for Joe will be 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Lanesboro High School.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. before the service at the high school.

In lieu of flowers memorials will go towards a charity in Joe’s name.

Johnson-Riley Funeral Home of Lanesboro is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences are welcome at rileyfuneralhomes.com.
